I have overcome a painful back problem also by doing some yoga stretches before bed. I got a video tape by Dixie Carter - Yoga For You - Unworkout II) and I picked out the (down-on-the-floor-stretches) that did not cause my neck or back discomfort. I have NOT missed a day doing yoga for over 5 years and I have been amazed at how 5 or 10 minutes a day devoted to yoga has strengthened my back, plus relieve the daily build-up of stress I accumulate.
