January 8, 2010, Newsletter Issue #335: Sugar Vs Your Childīs Immune System

Tip of the Week

It is a very tough job trying to regulate the amount of sugar that goes into your kidīs system. Sugar is lurking in most kidsī cereals, juices and of course, in the one zillion candies available. Adults need to be aware that excess sugary foods have been shown to lower a childīs immunity. If your child eats too many refined carbohydrates like pasta, cereals with extra sugar, white flour crackers, and sugary juices, it can truly affect their immune systems. Try diluting juices with water and try (hard as it may be) to substitute vegetable sticks and fruit slices for some of the sugary treats they might be reaching for as snacks. Whole grain crackers, bread & cereals are also so much healthier for their systems. Itīs worth the effort to give them better immunity.
