July 13, 2001, Newsletter Issue #46: Have Yourself A Healthy Snack

Tip of the Week

According to stats I recently saw in CHILD Magazine, just 12 percent of Americans eat a good diet - one that contains enough nutrients to protect against serious illness like heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, and osteoporosis. Women, especially, need calcium, folate, fiber, and iron to avoid PMS, anemia and the daily drag-your-butt syndrome that creeps into many of our systems by mid-afternoon.

You might wrinkle your nose up at the thought of munching on some prunes, BUT did you know that the powerful antioxidants found in this wrinkly fruit can actually correct the daily cell damage we suffer from our exposure to toxic pollution, smoke, and even the sun`s UV rays?

This data comes from the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, which also found evidence that the antioxidant power of prunes could help slow down the aging in the body and brain. So the next time you`re out shopping give a second thought to purchasing a bag or can of these often maligned little fruits. You may be surprised at just how tasty they can be!

There`s lots of wonderful stuff in Mother Nature`s pantry - so take a minute to learn a bit more about some of the surprising contents. To check out what tasty nut can make a REAL difference in your health, click on the link below!
