November 7, 2008, Newsletter Issue #275: Why Should I Avoid Overusing Antibiotics?

Tip of the Week

Antibiotics are sometimes a necessary step in controlling an illness or condition, but it is vitally important that you use them on a cautious basis. If you have a bacterial infection that doesnīt respond to garlic or echinacea in a reasonable amount of time, you may indeed require an antibiotic, but overuse of antibiotics can mean BIG trouble in your future. The overuse of antibiotics has resulted in the development of more aggressive organisms, which are proving to be resistant to drugs like penicillin and methicillin. Many people feel if a doctor sends them home without a prescription theyīre being short-changed - but the doctor may be doing you a far greater service in the long run by denying you the antibiotic.
