November 21, 2008, Newsletter Issue #277: Why Do I Bruise So Easily?

Tip of the Week

Bruising easily is often a sign of a vitamin C deficiency, which makes the blood vessels weaker. To help remedy this problem, take Vitamin C with bioflavonoids - 3,000 to 10,000 mg daily (in divided doses to prevent gastric distress). Grape seed extract and bromelain help in aiding vein inflammation, while Vitamin K or alfalfa are important in helping blood to clot properly and to promote healing. Foods extra high in Vitamin C and bioflavonoids include dark, leafy veggies, buckwheat and fresh fruits. Kale, is high in Vitamin K. Frequent bruising can be an early sign of cancer, so you may want consult with your doctor to rule out this possibility.
