March 8, 2002, Newsletter Issue #80: Natural RX for Fibroids & More

Tip of the Week

Researchers have analyzed the diets of many women, many of whom suffered from fibroids, and have determined that those who ate significantly MORE red meat and significantly FEWER green vegetables were more likely to develop this condition.

The tie-in seemed to rest on the fact that excessively high estrogen levels appeared to play a vital role in the development of fibroid tumors, suggesting that meat boosts estrogen levels. In addition, they also cited the positive effect of a certain class of compounds in vegetables and fruits (isoflavonoids), which work to partially offset some of the estrogen`s effects on the body. So, the tips researchers recommend are :

* Limit beef, other red meats, and ham - and eat NO more than 3 ounces of red meat a day
* Increase your servings of broccoli, asparagus, spinach, romaine, kale, and other green vegetables to at least five servings a day.
