According to an article in WebMD, there are definitely foods that break down into uric acid and aggravate gout. Foods rich in purines that are most often the culprits are fatty red meats; organ meats; and certain fish including herring, mackerel, and a few others.
All purine-rich foods are not thought to be harmful, however, and low-fat dairy products are now on the "good" list. Eggs and oatmeal also share a space on the good list.
Speak with your doctor about which foods to avoid if you are diagnosed with gout.
