March 27, 2009, Newsletter Issue #294: Easing Rash Discomfort

Tip of the Week
There are a long list of different types of skin rashes, but, first, you have to identify "why" you´re having a rash problem. Is it a sensitivity to a soap, detergent, lotion, medication, plant, fungus, ect.? Some herbs that can ease rash pain include calendula, chamomile, comfrey, elder flower and tea tree oil. These are applied externally and you can get them in cream form at health food stores or make your own "herbal infusion", which just means pouring a cup of boiling water over a few teaspoons of the dried herb, allowing it to steep for about 20 minutes. Then, just wet a cloth and sponge over the affected areas. Using Gold Bond powder (women should stay away from talc due to possible ovarian cancer danger) or cornstarch may also help if this is caused by chaffing. My all-time favorite do-it-all-cure is emu oil.
