April 17, 2009, Newsletter Issue #297: Battling Bursitis

Tip of the Week

Bursitis, the inflammation of the bursa sacs, can make life truly miserable. There are some supplements that may ease the pain and they include vitamin B 12 (injections-intramuscular) and the regular B-12 and B-3 capsules. Calcium (1,500 mg daily) & magnesium (750 mg daily) are very important for the repair process in the connective tissue, as is Glucosamine sulfate (as directed on label). Proteolytic enzymes also contain powerful anti-inflammatory power.

Herbal remedies include Boswellia, cayenne, turmeric, ginger and white willow. Horsetail extract can also be useful because it supplies silica, which is a form of the trace mineral silicon, necessary for tissue repair & healing.

I have found great relief for tennis elbow pain by using emu oil, an absolutely wonderful anti-inflammatory. Hot castor oil packs (made by dipping cloth (cotton, flannel or cheesecloth) into very warm oil, wrung out and then placed on the body covered by a piece of plastic & a heating pad, may also bring some relief.
