January 30, 2004, Newsletter Issue #123: Know Your Body Type

Tip of the Week

In the east, it is widely accepted that some people are naturally thinner, some people are naturally larger, and some of us are in the middle. This system of body types is called the dosha system- designated as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

VATA: You are thin and generally very tall or very short with little muscular development. Vata people walk and talk fast, but are easily fatigued. Your appetite and digestion vary.
PITTA: Pittas have a medium size torso. You tend to have fair, warm skin with moles and freckles. Pitta hair tends to be soft and they have tendencies for premature graying or hair loss. Pitta people have a strong metabolism, good digestion, and strong appetites. They easily perspire. Hands and feet stay warm. Pitta people have a lower tolerance for sunlight, heat or hard physical work. Pitta people sleep well and of medium duration.
KAPHA: Kapha people have a large build. You have thick skin and their bodies and muscles are well developed. You tend to gain weight and have a slow metabolism. Your skin is oily and smooth. Your eyes are large, dark, and attractive with thick, long lashes and brows. Sleep is deep and prolonged.

Many of us have a body that expresses a combination of 2 doshas. Learn what kind of body type you have and live in harmony with your nature. Take a Dosha test to find out what your body type is:
